Notice of Resolutions to Amend Policies and Procedures from 2020 AMM:

Notice of Motion: Proposed ISAO Policies and Procedures Revision

In accordance with ISAO Policies and Procedures, notice is hereby given for the following proposed motion to revise the ISAO Policies and Procedures. This is to be voted upon at the ISAO Annual Meeting of Members to be held on Thursday, 13 February 2020 at 11:15 am at RBC Place London, 300 York Street, London ON N6B 1P8.

Motion: That the Safety Committee and Certification Committee be added as standing committees of the ISAO and the following descriptions be added to the Standing Committee section of the ISAO Policies and Procedures:

Safety Committee

The Safety Committee shall compile and develop safety information for ISAO members in accordance with existing legislation, industry accepted safe work practices and manufacturer specifications.  It shall work to make professional industry information on safety standards readily available to members. This committee will recommend safety training in consultation with the Education Committee.

This committee shall be composed of three or more members.

Certification Committee

The Certification Committee shall be responsible for the ISA certification process in Ontario in accordance with ISA standards and requirements. The Committee will, with ISAO Board approval, make recommendations to the ISA regarding such matters as may improve or otherwise be advisable in the certification process.

This committee shall be composed of three or more members.

Rationale:  The Oxford English Dictionary defines “standing committee” as:  a permanent committee appointed to deal with all matters in a particular sphere during the existence of the body appointing them.  The ISAO Board has recognized that the Safety Committee and the Certification Committee fit the description of standing committees – both areas require ongoing ISAO work. These committees should therefore be included in the ISAO Policies and Procedures as Standing Committees. This requires ratification at an Annual Meeting of Members.
