Would you like to be able to identify the tree species around you? Do you want to learn best practices for selecting, planting and caring for trees in your yard or community?

This multi-day course will give you a solid understanding of how trees function and what they need to survive and thrive. You’ll learn about the benefits of urban trees and the challenges they face. Our expert instructors deliver engaging indoor and outdoor sessions that will give you skills you can apply immediately. You will walk away with a deeper understanding and be inspired to become an urban forest leader in your community.

Sessions:
Day 1:   Tuesday, May 8, 2018. 6:00PM – 9:00PM
Day 2:   Thursday, May 10, 2018. 6:00PM – 9:00PM
Day 3:   Saturday, May 12, 2018. 10:00AM – 4:00PM
Day 4:   Tuesday, May 15, 2018. 6:00PM – 9:00PM

Eligible participants who attend all four classes have the option to receive 12.00 ISA Continuing Education Units (CEU's).
This event is supported by Ontario Power Generation

Accessibility Information: The Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre facility is fully accessible by Ontario standards. Outdoor components of the course will involve walking in the park on relatively smooth but unpaved ground and on sidewalks throughout the neighbourhood. Join us for a guided tree tour through Colonel Samuel Smith Park! LEAF’s certified arborist will lead the tour and share seasonal tips on tree identification. Focusing on buds, flowers, and fruits in the spring, we’ll then return to the same trees in the fall to look at fall colour, bark and leaf shape.

This event is part of a two-part series which will allow participants to tour the same route in spring and fall to discuss varying tree identification techniques.

Please meet at the welcome sign at the east corner of last parking lot at the end of Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive.
Tour Leader: Brenna Anstett
Brenna holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Environmental Governance from the University of Guelph. She is also an ISA certified arborist.
Eligible participants who attend the tour have the option to receive 1.5 ISA Continuing Education Units (CEU's).

Please bring water and dress for the weather.
This event is rain or shine.

IPM FOR WOODY PLANTS is a field course designed to give you an opportunity to develop hands-on diagnostic skills and utilize valuable resources as a first step in IPM of woody plant pests. This popular workshop will have a small classroom component and combines field study and sample collection, lecture and hands-on diagnostics to help you detect and identify plant problems more effectively. CEU’s are available.

This Integrated Pest Management workshop will be held in partnership between Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), ISA Ontario and the Royal Botanic Gardens.   Keynote lecturers include Jen Llewellyn, OMAFRA Nursery & Landscape Specialist with Jon Peter, the Curator & Manager of Plant Records at the Royal Botanical Gardens.

Jeff McMann, Arbor Services Co-ordinator for the Mount Pleasant Group will speak briefly about tree risk issues on the property . CEU’s are available.

This Integrated Pest Management workshop will be held in partnership between Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), ISA Ontario and Mount Pleasant Group.   Keynote lecturers include Jen Llewellyn, OMAFRA Nursery & Landscape Specialist with Jeff McMann, Arbor Services Co-ordinator of the Mount Pleasant Group.
