Tree Tenders Stewardship Day – Hands-on Tree Care
Time: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Location: Machell Park, Aurora, ON. Meet in the northeast corner of parking lot. Parking lot is located on the north side of Aurora Heights Drive, west of Yonge Street
This site, planted last year with young trees and shrubs, needs some TLC in order to thrive.
Join us to get your hands dirty at this family-friendly event!
- 10:00 to 10:30 am: Learn about restoration efforts during a short tour of the site
- 10:30 am to 12:00 pm: Hands on work party to remove invasive species and apply mulch around young trees and shrubs
Refreshments provided. Volunteer hours available.
Please wear long pants and close-toed shoes (no sandals!) and bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and water. This event is rain or shine.

Would you like to be able to identify the tree species around you? Do you want to learn best practices for selecting, planting and caring for trees in your yard or community?
This multi-day course will give you a solid understanding of how trees function and what they need to survive and thrive. You’ll learn about the benefits of urban trees and the challenges they face. Our expert instructors deliver engaging indoor and outdoor sessions that will give you skills you can apply immediately.
You will walk away with a deeper understanding and be inspired to become an urban forest leader in your community.
Up to 13.75 CEU’s are available.

International Jack Kimmel Grant Deadline
2017 is year 8 for this grant program with funding available to researchers worldwide. The Jack Kimmel International Grant Program, championed by the Canadian TREE Fund, honors the late Jack Kimmel who was the former Director of Parks for the City of Toronto.
Projects are expected to be completed within one to three years. Grant award amounts are limited to a maximum of $10,000 and will vary depending upon the adjudged value of the project relative to the needs of the arboriculture community.

The Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) course includes Tree Biology and Mechanics, Tree Inspection and Assessment, Data Analysis and Risk Categorization, and Risk Reporting. This course prepares the participant to take the TRAQ assessment to become ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified.
The qualification consists of a 2-day educational course followed by a ½ day assessment that includes both a written and field component. It is required that you attend the course and successfully complete the assessment in order to receive this qualification.
