Recognizing 150 Heritage Trees with Forests Ontario & TD Bank!

As professionals working with trees, you might be interested to learn about the Ontario heritage Tree program.

Forests Ontario and the TD Bank Group have joined together to celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial by working with communities across Ontario to recognize 150 Heritage Trees – these are trees that posses and join the list of remarkable trees recognized for their importance to our province’s history .

Nominations:

Anyone can nominate a tree by providing details about the tree’s historical significance, size, location, a photo and a owner’s consent form.

While recognition doesn’t legally protect a tree, it does confer provincial importance and encourages good stewardship for a tree of such stature.  Successful nominators receive a one-year membership in Forests Ontario, and trees receive a plaque and certificate.

Evaluators:

Forests Ontario is looking for qualified evaluators who are interested in inspecting and evaluating potential Ontario Heritage Trees.  This is a volunteer feel-good position; evaluators find it rewarding to visit special trees and meet engaged and enthusiastic owners.

For more information about nominating a tree, or becoming an evaluator, please visit www.heritagetrees.ca or contact Toni Ellis, Heritage Tree Coordinator, at 1-877-646-1193 ext. 301.

Our mission is to enhance and promote the care and benefit of trees for present and future generations in Ontario through education, research and awareness.
