Description/Summary:

Natural Resource Solutions Inc. (NRSI) is an environmental consulting firm based out of Waterloo, Ontario, with offices in Alberta and Saskatchewan.  Our staff is comprised of terrestrial, wetland and aquatic biologists with expertise in the identification and management of significant and sensitive natural species and their habitats, as well as G.I.S specialists and administrative staff.  NRSI provides a range of services in the following areas:

  • Vegetation and Wildlife Ecology;
  • Fisheries and Aquatic Biology;
  • Wetland Studies;
  • Naturalization and Ecological Restoration;
  • Woodlot and Tree Studies;
  • Environmental Impact Assessment/Environmental Assessment;
  • Renewable Energy Assessments.

We have an opening for a Certified Arborist / Field Biologist based out of our Waterloo office, with travel to project sites throughout Ontario.  This is a full-time contract position with an anticipated starting date of April 1, 2018, extending up to 6 months with the possibility of extension.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have skills and experience in the following:

  • Be a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture or will obtain their Certified Arborist designation prior to the start date of this contract;
  • Conducting tree inventories and health assessments in rural and/or urban settings;
  • Strong tree identification skills;
  • Familiarity and experience preparing Arborist Reports / Tree Preservation Plans is an asset;
  • Conducting biological field surveys, specifically vegetation inventories and mapping of vegetation communities;
  •  Experience applying Ecological Land Classification and the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System is an asset;
  • Skills in the identification of avifauna, herpetofauna and mammal species, as well as experience conducting surveys using standard survey protocols is an asset;
  • Working and being outdoors for extended periods of time, in a variety of weather conditions;
  • Willingness to work irregular hours on occasion (evenings, early mornings, holidays, weekends);
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word;
  • A keen interest in the natural environment and desire to pursue a career in this field;
  • Ability to work as part of a team, or individually with minimal supervision.
Education/Assets/Other:

Key Requirements:

  • A valid driver’s license;
  • ISA Certified Arborist;
  • Flora and/or fauna ID skills.
Pay/Benefits:

Salary: commensurate on experience.
