Positions:
Consulting Arborist (Entry-Intermediate)
Location:
Based in Guelph
Description/Summary:

The Company
Aboud & Associates is a Guelph based consulting firm that unites the disciplines of Arboriculture, Ecology and Landscape Architecture. The firm has enjoyed success and growth over more than 20 years by continually providing excellent results and service and fostering a cooperative corporate culture. Business continues to be good, and we have a specific need for another arborist to join our team.

Qualifications:

The Gig
To be a competitive candidate for the position, you’ll be a certified arborist with some consulting experience. We can work with the right candidate on developing those requirements, but a desire for consulting is what will make us like each other. We work through challenging tree and urban forestry issues related to development for both public and private clients, so someone who can find a balance with the private and public motivations behind tree preservation will succeed.

Our corporate approach and culture support people who are self-motivated and well- rounded best. Collaborating with the professionals in house is a big part of this position; however, we want you to become a project manager. You will need confidence to make informed decisions pretty quickly, but your coworkers will always continue to provide project support when you need it. You will work with external engineers, planners, ecologists, landscape architects and botanists, and you will speak directly with clients, contractors and residents. In short, you will need to be able to effectively communicate tree related issues with non-arborist types using clear and defensible reasoning at public meetings, in reports and through mapping/construction drawings.

Education/Assets/Other:

The Fine Print
If you can accomplish the above, you’ve got what it takes! Realistically though, you will need a basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and you will be comfortable with electronic data collection (GPS/tablet). We are an agile company that welcomes new skill sets to expand our horizons, abilities and efficiencies. If you can help out with one of the other disciplines, let us know.

While we’re loving our new office space, the field functions of the job, which include tagging trees from time to time, occur during all four seasons in physically demanding environments like construction sites, swamps, and ravines. You will often be travelling to these environments by yourself, so a valid driver’s license is required. We will supply the car (it’s a hybrid).
